Reminder: Google Mobile First Indexing Notifications Are Delayed

Yesterday there were a batch of Google Search Console notifications around sites switching to the mobile-first indexing process. I stopped covering the notifications after the fourth batch of notifications have gone out. But this is a just a reminder that by the time you got the notification, you have already been in the mobile-first indexing process for a while.

Google’s John Mueller restated this, while on vacation, on Twitter. John said “Fwiw it’s mostly the messages, the move happens beforehand.”

The notifications are super useful, so I do not want Google to stop sending them. But they can be a week or more delayed from when a site is transitioned to the mobile-first indexing process.

We know we are far from done for Google to move all sites to this mobile-first indexing process. Also, I recommend you read these seven points on mobile-first indexing if this is all new to you.
