Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.
Search Engine Roundtable Stories:
- Google: We Looked At How To Give SEOs Advice On The Google Medic Update
I did it, I asked John Mueller of Google to please give additional advice to SEOs and webmasters about the Google Medic Update, the core algorithm update on August 1st. He said there is “not really” any more advice to give. - Google: We Strongly Recommend 301 Redirects For HTTPS Migrations
We all know that making HTTP to HTTPS site migrations is unique, it is treated differently by Google. Google said when making such a migration, they strongly recommend you use a 301 redirect (not a 302 or 303) on a URL by URL basis. If you do not, then the migration will take a lot longer. - Google’s New Link Report May Show Different Data & Numbers
Yesterday we reported Google came out with a new link report for the new Google Search Console to replace the old link report in the old. The thing is, the numbers might differ when you look at the old and new report because Google has changed how they calculate and get that data, I think. - Google Analytics Showing Some New Google Image Search Referrer Data
A month ago, Google announced they are changing the referrer URL for Google Image search so you can better track image search from Google Images traffic to your site. Google Analytics announced how that will appear in Google Analytics and I do see some traces of that showing up in Google Analytics now. - Google Local Panel User Suggested Edits Shown On Desktop
Google is now showing user suggested edits on the local panels even on desktop search results. I believe this has shown mostly for mobile local panels and to business owners but now it seems to show on desktop and even for not business owners. - Google Carpet Logo Wall
The Google Melbourne office has this earthy looking wall that seems to give off a grassy look but it also looks like carpet. There is this carpet but yet outdoors feel to the wall and the Google logo
Other Great Search Forum Threads:
- @rustybrick Just saw this in the Google SERP. The entire text in the top stories is clickable. Never seen this before. Something new?… https://t.co/aGug0UvJEk, Aquif Shaikh on Twitter
- Google Sued in US, WebmasterWorld
- I’d list the URLs you want indexed. We use sitemaps in part to select canonical URLs; if you tell us about one URL in the sitemap, but redirect to another URL, how are we supposed to know which one you really want?, John Mueller on Twitter
- Ad spend is growing for both native and search. There is a 25% expected annual growth in native ad spending in the US through 2019. Learn more about Microsoft Audience Ads today: https://t.co/HuktNqPlqp… https://t.co/zNlsgGul3G, Bing Ads on Twitter
- Sites that violate the guidelines might get dropped from Google News, regardless of size. And again, I’ve passed along your feedback. It is being reviewed. Among other things, we might reissue some guidance generally to remind, Danny Sullivan on Twitter
