The folks at RankRanger posted on Twitter two signals that Google is pushing the AMP growth internationally now.
AMP results are now showing way more often in the news box internationally. Starting earlier this month, Google has pushed more AMP related stories in the news box internationally then they have in the past. You can see the spike in the RankRanger tracking chart below for several countries outside of the US.

And there is also a spike in the percentage of page one mobile search results that contain at least one AMP result in three countries. Taiwan saw a 92% increase, Germany saw a 27% increase and Norway saw a 286% increase:
