Google Local & Map Ads Purple Ad Label Again

Back in 2016 we reported that Google Maps ads can and do show a purple ad label next to the local listings that are ads. But that has changed over the years and now Google is once again testing the purple ad label in the local ads, even on desktop.

Brian Freiesleben shared this screen shot on Twitter:

Like I said, this was kind of official back in 2016. But now, I cannot replicate it. Of course, Google is doing tons of UI tests now, espesially after the favicon pullback.

Google Opens Indexing Bugs Reporting Tool To Search Console Users

Google announced that all signed-in Google Search Console users who go to the English help form can now submit indexing bug notifications to Google. This ran as a pilot to a limited number of users back in April but is now open to a lot more Search Console users.

Google Displaying Header Tags Instead Of Titles For Search Snippets?

Google Maps Removed 4 Million Fake Business & 75 Million Local Reviews

Google announced this week that what it has done in 2019 to combat Google Maps spam and violations. Google removed 4 million fake business profiles from Google My Business in 2019. It also removed 75 million policy-violating reviews from local profiles.

Here are some of the highlights in bullet format:

• 4 million business profiles removed
• 75 million reviews removed
• 258,000 of those business profiles removed were due to contributor reports
• 580,000 of those reviews removed were due to contributor reports
• 10 million photos and 3 million videos were removed
• 475,000 user accounts were disabled and removed

This is all work done by both technologies and humans at Google.
