Google began rolling out the September 2019 Core Update yesterday at around 2pm ET. I’ve been tracking the SEO industry chatter since and so far the chatter seems somewhat limited. There are some noticing big changes but for the most part, it seems like it is rolling out very slowly. It is not uncommon for Google search algorithm updates to take a couple days to notice after it begins rolling out but we do have some people noticing big changes.
There is a dedicated thread at WebmasterWorld for this update and here are some of the people noticing changes. Note, most people have yet to notice any changes but here are the ones who said they noticed something:
I was hit by the June Core update, lost roughly 75% of my traffic. But I’m seeing some improvement since Monday, it’s more prominent today. Pray it stick.
I see plenty of ranking movement in Google right now, more than usual. Anyone seeing anything?
I am in the US, with mostly US consumer market targeted. It’s past midnight here. I am too overwhelmed with the crazy swings happening now. Can’t sleep.
Seeing insane amounts of shifts everywhere. I saw some competitors get knocked out.
Seeing little bit of improvements, Entertainment Niche .
I am seeing significant changes. I am back on Google Discover, Google News. Traffic trippled, new articles are ranking on SERPs as they did before June. Old articles haven’t recovered yet.
Here are some people on Twitter noticing or not noticing:
My site has moved up 6 places compared to yesterday. #flabbergasted Will this be another update that lasts a mere two weeks? @rustybrick

Used your brilliant method to check hourly performance last night on a dozen or so sites and didn’t see much either.

Quick note about the September core update: I checked a boatload of data this morning & haven’t seen much volatility yet. Hourly trending typically will reveal surges/drops, but after checking many sites, *most* showed stable trending (see exs below). I’ll post an update today: pic.twitter.com/oUrcRLB6z9

I even posted a poll 20 minutes ago on this on Twitter and have over 100 votes where 71% said no change and 29% said they saw changes, this poll will be live for a day, so check back on the results:
Anyone seeing and significant changes in rankings or traffic after the Google Sept. 2019 core update release from yesterday?
— Barry Schwartz (@rustybrick) September 25, 2019
Now the tools are not all showing changes yet, some are and many are not. Maybe because the timing of when they run vs when the Google update started to roll out. Mozcast is not showing a real update yet, neither is SERP Metrics, nor is Algoroo, or Advanced Web Rankings, and same with Cognitive SEO.
Accuranker is showing some movement:
RankRanger is showing changes but Mordy from the company said “I was going to try to pull some data on the Sept. 2019 Core Update… but the roll-out seems to be starting really slowly. These levels of fluctuations are “high” but nothing like we normally see during a core update (typically).”
SEMRush shows a tick up but again, not as much as a normal core update:
I should note, many people look at the wrong timelines when it comes to updates. This update began rolling out yesterday afternoon. So don’t look at your Monday traffic? You need to compare hourly traffic like Glenn posted above:
No.

I suspect we need to wait another 24 hours and recheck in?
Are you noticing changes? Let us know in the comments.
