Google Maps Removed 4 Million Fake Business & 75 Million Local Reviews

Google announced this week that what it has done in 2019 to combat Google Maps spam and violations. Google removed 4 million fake business profiles from Google My Business in 2019. It also removed 75 million policy-violating reviews from local profiles.

Here are some of the highlights in bullet format:

• 4 million business profiles removed
• 75 million reviews removed
• 258,000 of those business profiles removed were due to contributor reports
• 580,000 of those reviews removed were due to contributor reports
• 10 million photos and 3 million videos were removed
• 475,000 user accounts were disabled and removed

This is all work done by both technologies and humans at Google.

Top 10 Most Popular Politicians on Social Media

There are many politicians across the world on social media. As with all social users, some are more active than others, some are just well-liked, and some have brilliant strategies in place to reach their audience. 

In a recent study, SEMrush identified politicians with the largest amount of followers on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. We put together a list of the 10 most popular politicians on social media across each of these platforms.

You can see the politicians, the number of their followers, and our findings below:

Key findings from the study:

• Former American President, Barack Obama, is the front runner being the first politician to be close to reaching 200 million social media followers.

• Twitter brings the largest amount of followers to almost all of the politicians, while in comparison, YouTube generates the least amount of followers. 

• American politics have the most representation on social platforms — three out of the top 10 politicians are American.

• Despite being second in terms of the total amount of followers, Narendra Modi has the biggest amount of Instagram followers amongst the top 10 politicians.

• The combined amount of followers for the first two politicians, Barack Obama and Narendra Modi, is bigger than the population of the USA.

• The сombined amount of all followers for the top 10 politicians is only 85 million people less than that of the total population of all European countries combined.

Google Will Slow Crawling For 429/503 HTTP Status Codes But…

Gary Illyes from Google came on to Twitter for a brief moment to share a PSA about 429/503 HTTP status codes. He said while you probably know 429/503 HTTP status codes will slow GoogleBot’s crawling activity, what you might not know is that if those codes are left in place for too long, it can remove the pages completely from the Google search index.

He wrote “Fun fact: serving 429/503 http status codes will slow down crawling, yes, but if you serve them for a longer period of time, they will remove the pages served with said codes from the index.”
