There are now signs that there is a Google search ranking algorithm update going on. The signals started late December 10th, mostly on December 11th and throughout December 12th. We see both chatter in the SEO forums and from the automated tracking tools.
Here is some of the chatter from both WebmasterWorld and Black Hat World:
Still seeing loads of movement… endless
From 9th of Nov. my site start getting good traffic by Organic and my most of the keywords came on the first page and slowly was getting good impression and clicks in webmasters.
But Today my site traffic is down 70% approx then i have checked the keywords ranking in Google of my converted keywords, which is not showing anywhere in Google.
I am seeing quite a large shake up happening this afternoon. Anybody else seeing anything usual? I’d say unusual but it’s really not these days!
semrush sensor is super high today. My traffic in Analytica looks down another 25% hour by hour compared to yesterday.
What are your observations? New Google update is rolling out.
On second thoughts, just looking at my analytics there did seem to be a noticeable change (drop of about 3-6%) at some point/time yesterday. Whether it was related to search or not, I’m not too sure yet.

Now for the fun conspiracy stuff with Bill Lambert, where he commented yesterday when I was not seeing any update signals saying “You will today and tomorrow.” This is after I said “I still do not see signals of a big update. I’ll keep watching.” Fun!
