Google on Sunday had a pretty unique and new home page feature for Easter. It was the first time they did something like this in general but not the first time they had an Easter Google Doodle. There was no Doodle, but if you clicked on the I’m Feeling Lucky button, Easter eggs would drop and fill up the page. We actually covered it briefly on Monday.
The GIF above is a video of it in action.
Some searchers are upset Google doesn’t do this for other religious holidays. So Danny Sullivan from Google went out to do some damage control:
We had an entire home page experience for Easter for those on desktop, where tapping a traditional item led to more info like this: https://t.co/1IUdsKBdr2
In the future we hope such an experience works on mobile (it was hard to have the interactivity work dependably on mobile). pic.twitter.com/gjiuBN4OGU

As said, it was hard to make the interactivity work well on mobile. This was the first time we had this type of whole home page experience. As said, we’re looking to improve that in the future.

The only time Google did an Easter Doodle was in 2000 and since then, Google pretty much ignored the holiday.
