Google: With March 2019 Core Update We Try To Make Incremental Improvements

Google’s John Mueller for the first time addressed the latest Google algorithm update, the March 2019 core update, that touched down on March 12th. He was asked if it was a softening of the August 1st core Medic update. He said he doesn’t know but generally Google likes to make incremental updates in these cases.

John said at the 12:04 mark into the video “So these kind of incremental changes, I think they’re completely normal with just algorithm updates in general.”

He said “in general when we make algorithm updates we do try to work with one state and work towards a new state. And sometimes we improve things where we recognize maybe they’ll grow them under a little bit too far and sometimes we improve things where we recognize algorithm didn’t go far enough.”

Seems logical to me.

With the March 12 core algorithm update, there were many sites that saw positive movement that dropped heavily during the August 2018 update. Not all, but many did. Was there a softening with whatever rolled out in August?

I don’t know how this would relate to the updates in August.

So I mean in general when we make algorithm updates we do try to work with one state and work towards a new state. And sometimes we improve things where we recognize maybe they’ll grow them under a little bit too far and sometimes we improve things where we recognize algorithm didn’t go far enough.

So these kind of incremental changes, I think they’re completely normal with just algorithm updates in general.
